Xin Chao! My name is Vi and I'm from Vietnam. I was born and bred in Ho Chi Minh City, the economic center of Vietnam. In high school I had the opportunity to attend the "Young Leaders Summer Camp" in Australia, where I made friends with people from different countries. From that life-changing experience, I took deep interest in international friendship and cross-cultural communication. After high school, I decided to study abroad in Japan, and now I am a business student at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University.

シンチャオ！私はヴェトナムのヴィです。ベトナムの経済の中心であるホーチミンで、生まれ育ちました。高校生の時、オーストラリアで行われた「ヤングリーダーズ・サマーキャンプ」に参加して、違う国から来た友達ができました。そんな人生を変えるような経験を通して、国境を越えた友情と異文化間コミュニケーションに、深い興味を持ちました。高校卒業後日本に留学することを決め、そして今は立命館アジア太平洋大学でビジネスについて勉強しています。

My experience / 日本でのカルチャーショック

Jam packed train in Tokyo.
I was in shock watching the passengers packed like canned sardines into a train during rush hour. In my country, we commute by motorcycles so I have never seen such a packed train.
Friendly staff.
The staff at the convenient stores, supermarkets, shopping centers, I mean, everywhere in Japan, are super nice and helpful.
Incredibly beautiful toilets! It's amazing that the toilets anywhere in Japan are so clean and comfortable, a high standard that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

ぎゅーぎゅー詰めの電車
混雑時間に、イワシの缶詰のように乗客が電車に詰め込まれているのを見た時、私はショックを受けました。ベトナムでは、オートバイで通勤するのが一般的だったので、そんな満員電車を今までに見たことがなかったのです。
親しみやすいスタッフ
コンビニやスーパーやショッピングセンターの店員。と言うよりも、日本中色々な所にいるスタッフは皆、とても素晴らしく、助けてくれます。
信じられないくらい美しいトイレ！
日本中のトイレがどれも、とてもきれいで心地よいのは、驚きです。こんな高い水準は、世界中どこを探しても見つかりません。

My future / 私の未来

What: My dream is to become a dream-supporter.
Why: In my country, many children grow up becoming what they are told by their parents, teachers and peers, without ever thinking deeply about their true passion. I hope every child can have an informed choice of what they want to become in life, and have the opportunity to explore the world as it is, not what they imagine it to be or wish it were.
How: I want to bring what I learn in Japan and other countries back home and establish a business that support children's dreams.

何？：私の夢は、夢のサポーターになること
何で？：ベトナムではたくさんの子供達が、彼らの本当にやりたいことが何かを深く考えることもなく、両親や先生や周囲の人に言われるがままに、将来何になるか決まってしまいます。私は、子供たちが皆情報に基づいて、何になりたいか選択できるといいなと思っています。また、想像したものやこうだったらいいなと願った姿ではなく、そのままの世界を探検する機会があるといいなと思っています。
どうやって？：私は、日本や他の国で学んだことをベトナムに持って帰り、子供たちの夢を支えるビジネスを立ち上げたいです。

My message / あなたへのメッセージ

Whatever you do, think deeply about "why" you are doing it. Is it actually your choice or someone else's choice? Keep on learning, experiencing, and finding your true passion.

何をするにも、「なぜ」それをするのかよく考えて。それは本当にあなたの選択なのか、誰かが選んだことなのか。学び続け、感じ続け、そしてあなたの本当にやりたいことを探し続けて。

Mingalabar! I’m Shweyee from Myanmar. I was born and raised in Yangon, which used to be the capital of Myanmar. Until high school, I studied in my home country. Then I came to Japan. I am currently a university student at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University studying sustainable development.

ミンガラバ！ミャンマーのシュエイーです。最近まではミャンマーの首都だったヤンゴンで生まれ育ちました。高校まで自分の国で勉強をしましたが、大学では日本に来ました。今は立命館アジア太平洋大学で持続的開発についてを勉強してます。

My experience / 日本でのカルチャーショック

“Arigato!” Why does everyone say “thank you” to everything? In my country, we don’t say “thank you” when we pay for a service. For example, at a restaurant, we do not say “thank you” when we leave because it is a paid service.
“Hai! Hai!” Why does everyone bow their heads and say “hai!” when they talk on the phone. The person on the other end of the phone cannot see you bowing, so why do Japanese people do it?
“Ahhhh!” Why do Japanese people take off their clothes when they go to a hot spring. In Myanmar, we always wear a towel when bathing in public.

「ありがとう！」なぜ日本人は何に対しても「ありがとう」と言うのでしょう？ミャンマーでは何かを買った後には「ありがとう」と言いません。例えばレストランで食べ終わって帰る時にお礼をしません。お金を払ったのだからお礼は必要ないと考えるのです。
「はい！はい！」なぜ日本人は電話で話すときまでも頭を下げるのでしょう？頭を下げても電話越しの人には見えないのに。
「きゃああ！」なぜ日本人は温泉へ行くと服を脱ぐのでしょう？ミャンマーでは他の人の前でお風呂に入るときは絶対にタオルを巻いて入ります。

What’s up!? My name is Nicholas. I am half American and half Japanese with a father from the United States and a mother from Japan. I was born in Tokyo where I went to preschool. Then I moved to the United States where I went to elementary school, middle school, and high school. Now, I’m a college student back in Tokyo at Waseda University. I am both Japanese and American. Yet I am neither. I think of myself as an international citizen that transcends borders.

ワッツアップ！？ニコラスです。日本とアメリカのハーフで、お父さんはアメリカ出身、お母さんは日本出身です。東京で生まれ、幼稚園も東京で通いました。けどその後はアメリカに引っ越して小学校、中学校、高校に通いました。今は東京に戻り早稲田大学の学生です。日本人でもありアメリカ人でもあり、けどどちらでもない、自分は国籍には当てはまらない世界の一員だと考えてます。

My experience / 日本でのカルチャーショック

Lost items come back. When I forgot my laptop on the train, I went to chase it. But at the end of the day, it came back to Shinjuku station’s lost and found.
So safe! It’s so safe that I sometimes see preschoolers on the trains by themselves. Not possible in any other country.
Credit card?? I always try to use a credit card when paying at stores, but many stores tell me “cash only,” so I have to pull out my wallet.

忘れ物をしても戻ってくる。電車の中でパソコンを忘れた特、急行に乗って一日かけてパソコンを追いかけ回しました。けど、夜になったら新宿駅にちゃんと届いてた。
安全すぎる！幼稚園生が電車に一人で乗ってるのを見かける。日本以外の国ではあり得ない。
クレジットカード？？お店での支払いの時にカードを出すと、「現金のみなんです」って言われる事が多く、毎回財布を出さなきゃいけない。

My future / 私の未来

I have two goals in life.

Connect the cultures of the world. Starting with my home countries of Japan and the US, I would like to deepen the understanding and cooperation among countries of the world
Connect people with technology. I really love technology and I believe that technology can help people live better lives.

人生で成し遂げたい事が２つあります

世界の文化の架け橋になる。自分の故郷の日本とアメリカを始め、世界の国々の相互理解と協力を深める役割を果たしたい。
人間とテクノロジーの架け橋になる。テクノロジーが大好きなので、テクノロジーが人々の助けとなり人生を豊にしてくれるような使い方を広める。

My message / あなたへのメッセージ

Be yourself. Your friends, your teachers, your parents will tell you to do this or that. But if you don’t agree, don’t let them change your mind. Do what only you can do in your own original way.

「自分」を大切に。時には友達や先生、そして親にも「あれをやれ」「これをやれ」と言われるだろうが、自分で考えて自分が正しいと思った事を決してあきらめないで。自分にしかできない事を自分にしかできないやり方でやって欲しい。
